Thursday was another beautiful hot day in Kakadu. Jen & I started the day with a ride around Jabiru Lake and township whilst Rob & Gary headed off fishing at Cahills Crossing (yes where those great croc photos came from). Sadly no fish for tea that night but the boys had fun trying. Lost a couple of lures but where smart enough to not bother trying to retrieve them. Gary walked across the crossing to check in something and when he went to return there was a croc sitting on the rocks on edge of causeway thinking about dinner! (Check the photo Rob took / zoom in on left side in rocks ). Gaz had to wait until a car came along to frighten the croc back into water before he could come back!!
We then met up with Gary's nephew Tom and partner Jaz and headed off for a short tour into Arnhem Land. First stop was Gunbalanya township (home to approx 1200 people and biggest settlement in Arnhem Land). It is a sad sight to see that even here they are stuck between cultures and you can only wish that an answer is found before it becomes to late.
We went on to view some rock art in the area and then a late lunch at a Billabong which was just stunning. It was an interesting insight into a very small part of this fascinating area and we would love to see more in the future.
Sadly we blew a tyre on the way back to town and so began the difficult job of getting a new tyre in the NT.
So here's a tip for any of you considering a trip around Australia - make sure you have a really well known brand of tyre on your vehicle as it can take a week to get a replacement for the lessor used brands.
Ahhhh.
Oh well hopefully we won't have another flat tyre until we reach Katherine where we are picking up our new one!!
Next stop Coininda in the southern section of Kakadu.
